Had a second lovely high tea at Hornsby RSL in March 2025, and it exceeded expectations.
The tea menu offers an impressive variety, and the presentation was beautifully done with an elegant table setting. They’re generous with the cream (a small but appreciated detail!), and the mix of savoury and sweet treats was just right—plenty to enjoy without feeling too full.
A relaxed and refined afternoon—highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind with great tea and great company. This is a great place to celebrate a young adult birthday as they can gravitate to the bar downstairs after high tea.

On Sunday, 10 March 2024, we had the pleasure of attending High Tea at Hornsby RSL. This elegant experience—offered on select dates—can be confirmed via the RSL’s official website and is highly recommended for those seeking a memorable afternoon.
We began our visit with a celebratory glass of sparkling wine at the bar, which set a joyful and festive tone. We then made our way to the first floor, where the cocktail lounge is located. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and promptly shown to our table by attentive staff.
We selected the sparkling high tea package, which includes a glass of bubbly and an assortment of sweet and savory offerings. Notably, Hornsby RSL caters to a range of dietary requirements, including vegetarian and diabetic options—both of which we sampled. These preferences can be indicated at the time of booking through their online reservation system.
After being seated, we were invited to choose from a thoughtfully curated tea selection. Our chilled sparkling wine was served swiftly, followed by a beautifully arranged tiered stand showcasing a variety of delicacies. Of particular note was the diabetic-friendly cream prepared especially for me, alongside an appealing mix of cakes, pastries, and a personal platter of fresh seasonal fruits.
Culinary Highlights
The presentation was exceptional, with each item artfully plated. The sandwiches were notably fresh and generously filled—especially the chicken variety. The menu featured a pleasing blend of traditional high tea staples and modern interpretations. The macarons were both delicate and flavorful, while the chocolate-dipped strawberries, finished with red and white decorative stripes, were a standout.
Ambience & Service
The atmosphere was calm and inviting—ideal for a leisurely afternoon. Service throughout was impeccable; staff were courteous, responsive, and detail-oriented. An unexpected delight was the complimentary additional dessert plate offered at the conclusion of our sitting, featuring rich tiramisu, caramel tarts, and more of the signature strawberries.
Particular praise is due to the staff for their polished service, attention to detail (including gleaming silverware), and overall professionalism. We were among the last guests to depart, and were courteously informed as the venue approached closing time at 3:00 PM.
