We recently visited Fox Hole to experience their renowned Gin High Tea, located on Harrington Street in The Rocks. This quaint little bar has a unique twist – teapots filled with gin for their high tea. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by an exceptionally friendly waiter who led us to a cosy corner table. It was a chilly day, but our seating arrangement made us feel perfectly comfortable.
Fox Hole is an excellent spot for a drink, catching up with friends, or indulging in high tea. The interior boasts a charming blue wall adorned with artworks representing various herbs and spices, adding to the venue’s distinctive character.
In no time, our gin-filled teapots arrived. Though I’m not usually a gin enthusiast, I was keen to partake in the experience and share my thoughts. My friends, who are gin connoisseurs, thoroughly enjoyed it. The teapots were emptied within minutes, even though we opted out of the bottomless gin option. We chose the rosemary-infused gin over the raspberry, and it did not disappoint.
The high tea experience at Fox Hole was delightful, even for a non-gin drinker like myself. The atmosphere, the well-lit bar at the back, the cosiness, and the friendly service all contributed to an unforgettable afternoon.

The Food
One of the highlights of our high tea adventures at Fox Hole was the inclusion of hot food. The sausage rolls and arancini were exceptional, providing a warm and fresh taste that was perfect for the cold day. The combination of mini hot foods and gin was simply the best.

We also loved the fresh sandwiches and the petit fours, which were not too sweet and absolutely perfect. However, there is room for improvement with the scones – more jam and cream would be appreciated. The two small dishes of jam and clotted cream were insufficient for the four of us (two scones each), and the cream was slightly too hard to spread.
Overall Experience: 9/10
High tea at Fox Hole costs $85 per person for a three-tiered high tea and a teapot of gin for two. Booking is necessary, and you can upgrade to bottomless gin for an additional cost upon arrival. The beauty of this place is that after high tea, you can enjoy cocktails to round off the afternoon. The bartender can even craft cocktails not listed on the menu. We enjoyed margaritas, sidecars, and a delightful whisky concoction to warm us up.
Fox Hole is a place we’ll undoubtedly revisit.
